Biography

My name is Kevin Thomas, or DJ Pikey to most. I come from Newport in South Wales and I’m 31 years old.
I’ve always been into dance music, even at an early age listening to hip hop, electro and moving into harder dance sounds like the prodigy in the early 90’s. I have listened to rave music since 1990 and have attended raves since 1992.

I have co-promoted events with James Watts, (MC Wotsee), in Wales namely X-plosion and BPM. 2008 has seen me take on a new venture in promoting Ravers are: along side Ben Niacin. Being involved in these events has resulted in me building good relationships with almost every artist in the scene. It is through these events that I developed a taste for getting involved in the scene and eventually started DJ’ing hardcore in 2003 when I got a set of decks for Xmas. I quickly picked up the necessary skills from a lot of practise and spending time watching the main stream DJ’s.

In July 2005 I put out my 1st demo cd and received good feedback from promoters and established DJ’s. I acquired my 1st bookings in September 2005 at The Fruit Club, Swindon, for Jellybeanz and also Total Bedlam on the same night. Since then I have played for:

My main influence has been Marc Smith. Also Brisk, Sharkey, Kevin Energy, Joey Riot & Kurt deserve a mention. I like to play towards the more diverse side of hardcore, playing tracks from labels such as Notorious, Kaotic, Nu Energy, Relentless, Next Generation, Thin n Crispy, Lethal Theory and others. I’d describe my style of DJ’ing as fast, hard, bouncy, adventurous and entertaining. I am fully involved and very animated when I play as I believe a DJ should also show personality behind the decks.

My plans for the future are to release more of my own material as well as collaborations. I have been learning from many different established names over the last few years about different aspects of hardcore music. In May 2006 I worked with Joey Riot to produce our 1st track together, entitled "summin 2 dance 2" and have also completed another track - "Move your body", both of which feature on DJ Kurt & Stormtroopers cd on Hardcore Underground.
